Samedi le 20 septembre

Well, slept for a while with no noise from above, then the phone rang! The bed will start to be delivered from 11am. I say start as the guy I am buying it from is hand delivering – 3 trips! Mad! But he was so keen to get rid of it as they return to USA this week.
The phone rings – party at the Laings! Great to hear friends voices and to catch up with Robyn, Karen, Rachel and my family of course. Made me feel homesick though – I was missing out! So he arrived with the base, I then proceeded to the Intermarché for the groceries while he went back to get the mattress. I did try to persuade him to jump on a bus with it but he thought they wouldn’t let him on. After an hour he and his wife arrived with the mattress and then about 45 minutes after that he arrived with the slats! Thrown in were also some maps and a great book on France.
While all these trips were going on I was rearranging here to fit things in, shifting and making single beds, shifting pianos and fridges, tables couches etc…Doing the housework at same time.
After the last part of the bed arrived I headed to Chateau Farine, (the complete other side of town and never been there before) on the bus and you get to see all the different areas a change and I arrive at the hyper-store part of town! Found a great shoe shop, probably equivalent to our No1 Shoe warehouse, a fantastic (cheap) clothes shop - a bit like Farmers / Hallensteins / Pumpkin Patch together.
But… I didn’t buy anything! No surprise that I can resist clothes and shoes very easily – fashion, haute couture, certainly isn’t my forte!
Amazingly the French judge you on the clothes you wear (I am in the crapper!) and take time to really look great – high heels most of the time, get really dressed up just to go anywhere, but if you follow them home and go inside they can live in real dodgy places!

Off I went to the humungous Casino ( supermarket / Kmart / sells everything!) along with the other 4000 odd people – it took ages to get across the carpark there would have been 2000 cars – so this is where everyone goes on a Saturday! I didn’t get a trolley before I went in – big mistake! As once you are in there are no trolley’s but I couldn’t be bothered trying to get back to get one. This of course is a great strategy of how not to impulse buy!
Found my way to the bed linen, took time trying to read labels so I got the right things – duvet and cover. A special was on, my favourite, buy the duvet cover and for 1€ you get 2 pillow cases, the bottom sheet and another thing for the big round long cushiony things the French use behind their pillows! So trying to hold onto the duvet and all these things I was out of there fast.
Back to the bus and lo and behold there is a man with a mattress! Many people had large things, including me!
Got back about 5 and quickly washed the new linen so I could sleep in the double bed tonight.
Spent ages renaming photos in old albums while watching / glancing at the final of the French equivalent to Survivor!
