dimanche 7 septembre

dimanche 7 septembre

Well have had a great sleep past 2 days – woke at 10am again! Waited for my phone call – finally it arrived!
Got organised and made my way into town to the Gourmand Festival – basically a food and wine festival of the regions specialties! It was so cute – very well organised, all the vendors had cool wee timber huts, looked great. The smells were delicious at some, repulsive at others and strange aromas at others!

Walked around and took photos before settling on a crepe caramel – lots of the other things were very expensive by the time I changed to NZ$. The scrooge that I am nearly resented the $5 NZ for a really thin crepe – the cheapest thing there! Lots were eating raw oysters - don’t think they come from around here! There were heaps of cheese stalls, wine stalls – naturally – and preserves too – things like tripe preserved with prune juice – or at least I think that was the juice!
Also all the terrine and pates of duck, goose, chicken livers etc….
Many things were cooked in huge pans out the front. It was also a wee bit like A&P show as it had a very small section of a few animals for the children to look at and pat – 2 horses, 1 cow, chickens, rabbits and sheep –with tails!

By far the funniest thing I saw was a real live merry go round with live ponies!!! Don’t know what the SPCA at home would think! If 1 pony had a rider they all had to traipse round and round!

The music was great – one guy in the group was playing something new to me – he had silver finger stalls over all his fingers and he would tap, scratch, hit etc with his hands on a variety of things in front of him.

Walked a bit more round town – but of course everything shut – just taking in the sights –home! Lay in sun and read tourist brochures in French– picked out what I could! Scared to finish my book as I only have 1 in English left and the family doesn’t arrive for a while yet – need to read at night when can’t sleep!

Had a go at getting TV to work and remarkably I can get a couple of channels – bit fuzzy but better than nothing and takes away boredom a little! Caught up with downloading photos and diary!
Tea et Bed! Ready for my big day at language school tomorrow! Eekkk!
