Samedi 6 septembre

samedi le 6 septembre:

Had a great sleep – woke at 10:20! No noise and no light – due to roller blinds!
Shower and a phone call from home – Yippee!!!
Big plan for the day – to go to Carrefour – big supermarket and Kmart type store combined, in a shopping mall!
Got myself organised – checked bus routes, times and weather – Pouring with rain!
Jacket on, supermarket bags with me, instructions for bus route and off I go!

2 Bus changes later I arrive at the Centre Commercial – liked the bus ride through the outer suburbs, more like home, individual houses with a garden, the odd swimming pool, sets of swings etc… Pretty!
The commercial centre has the mega stores like home, in I go to the Carrefour, a few cafes, pharmacy – another one – they are everywhere – France has the proud honour of being the biggest pill poppers the world over – many on antidepressants and go to shrinks etc…!
It is humungous!

One interesting thing – you pay to use a grocery trolley – you have to put in 1 Euro and then it lets you get a trolley, it holds it in this gadget on the hand rail – then when you return the trolley and lock it into place it returns your money! It would stop scarfies stealing trollies and using them for BBQs at their flats!

It took me ages to go around all the Kmart type stuff at one end and then it gradually merges into food – delicatessen for specialised meat, cheese, fish, breads and pastries, cooked meals and then you have the normal packaged meat etc… aisles and aisles, 1 whole aisle was just ham and bacon! Fruit you get and take it to get weighed and priced in that section before checkout!
Aisles of cheeses – yoghurts etc…. 1 Huge aisle to bottled water!
Amazing! Even the weirdest sausages and salamis you have ever seen! Next time I might try and take photos – didn’t like to today as I thought it would look weird! I am so trying to look French – but there is no way I will ever pass as French – blonde, pale skin, not beautiful and olive complexion – they certainly are “chic” can’t explain it but they have a look!
Finally give in and buy an umbrella -15 Euros – cheapest they had!
3 hours later and I do the return journey with 2 big supermarket bags! Got back not too wet!
Started to sort out the flat – went through cupboards and sorted stuff out – finally emptied my suitcase!
Swapped table around and organised cupboards etc – must be bored or missing things to do!
Next few hours have finally caught up with all these entries and posted on to blog!
About to have tea – 8:30 pm! Hasn’t stopped raining all day!
Hopefully will stop raining and I will go into the last day of the Gourmand Food Festival in town tomorrow!
