This morning I popped over to the school to request a letter that confirms where I live for many of the organisations around here. (Yesterday I tried to open a bank account, not the easiest but went to the bank for the students hoping to get a good deal – no fees etc. Goodness knows what I have signed! I hope that ignorance and lack of language is a defense in court! )
At the school I received an envelope with a list of kids names for the English Club – Tuesday 4:35-5:35 with 14 ,4 year olds –HEEELLLLLPPPPPP! What a long day, at maternelle till 4:30 then English club before home. They must be tired and hungry – dreading it. I haven’t been shown around the school, don’t know where I will teach them, photocopier etc… but asked and hopefully someone will show me on Monday. I am hoping that each Tuesday the girls and Nev might come and help.
Met Jim for another bag of goodies with a rolling pin, whisk and other useful bits and more food. Jim and Carolyn are so kind and thoughtful, she rang tonight to ask if I would like to go out for tea with them tomorrow night and collect more bits and pieces. Carolyn has also got a couple of contacts that are willing to meet up with me and help out with French language and I help them with English. It is such a shame that I meet them and they are leaving.
Today there was a voice message left on the phone, unfortunately it was French and I understood none of it. What to do? I went to reception at CLA and asked if she could listen and translate for me – luckily she could. I had ordered a book at the bookshop and it had arrived!
A few emails and photo downloads later here I am!
Another thing I have noticed – many cars have the flouro yellow hi-vis vests around the passenger seat as if it is wearing it. Why? A new law in France, that every car – rental or private must carry first aid kit and emergency gear. If you have the vest on the seat it is easily seen and the police might not check.
Second, nearly all cars in France are manuals it is incredibly rare to find an automatic – why? Who knows! Considering the lights and hills and the huge cities you would expect them to have autos.
