Mercredi le 24 septembre

Well not much to report – for lunch today a few of the class mates went out for lunch. We went to a little eclectic restaurant and had a classic French dish – croque monsieur! It is a version I suppose, of cheese on toast and a toasted sandwich, it has 2 slices of bread, ham and a creamy cheese mixture on top. It is very Yummy – this meal with salad and frites 4€.

A croque madam is the same with a fried egg on top! 3€50.

After class I met with Jim who gave me a bag of goodies to take home with me, spare sheets and a phone book and variety of food products.
Wendy and I decided to go out for her last dinner, as tomorrow night she will be too busy packing to go home! Off we headed into town, our mission to find a cheap restaurant with good food – how long did we have?
We went to the restaurant the Lonely Planet recommended – first I spotted a cat in the window, the first cat I have seen since I have been here on closer inspection 2 cats wandering around. Made way to the door – shut! We wondered if we were a bit early 6:45 for tea but thought no at least someone would be there getting organised. The French are very late eater, shops in town don’t shut till 7pm then by the time people get home and cook tea, most families wouldn’t have tea much before 8:30-9:00pm or later. The lateness of course is pushed out by the 2 hour lunch break where nearly everything is shut except for food places.

So, we walked and looked and walked and looked but nothing took our fancy, then we spotted a little Lebanese hole in the wall with a few tables inside. Looked clean but suspicions should be aroused when you can look at the photo and order by number. Nevertheless it was great! The staff were so friendly and took an interest in where we were from (first one’s to do so) and the young waitress from Saudian descent made effort to explain dishes in English. Wendy ordered something and the plates just kept coming 6 dishes in all!

I had a poulet selection, wings, drums, breast that came with rice, salad, fries and pita bread! We had a pichet of red to go with it and all for the sum of 10€.
