Christmas Day –Joyeux Noel

The "box" contained all of our 'surprise' wee packages! THANKS!

Amazingly the children didn’t wake too early – 7:30ish. The Santa sacks had been safely delivered to France and to our wee hamlet! I just love the girl’s faces as they reach in to the sack and see what it might be! A pure WOW! factor. As tradition in our house the girls open their santa sack while sitting on our bed - probably started when they were really little and it was very early, meaning I preferred to stay warm in bed!
BY the time we had all showered and eaten a latish breakfast we went and opened our very meagre family presents – shirt for Nev, Xmas ornaments for me, snow boots for the girls and a game of French Monopoly. Along with a couple of surprise packages from very dear friends, with yummy edibles from home and gifts. How very thoughtful – I know I have said Thanks before but really it was thoughtful and blew us away with your kindness. At times like this it is amazing how much you miss and enjoy your friends. It really does make us realise how much you guys all mean to us all.
I tried to ring Dad but the line was so crackly and he couldn’t hear us – at least we got to say Merry Xmas that was a bout all though.
We also got many texts and it so made us feel good – however reception was very poor where we are and I know not many that we sent got to the final destination. A phone call from the Laings and whanau made us feel at home – amazing what a high you can be on after finally talking to people you care about.
Lunch was put on – roast chicken and we had chip and dip –YUM!!! while we waited with Bluebird Salt and Vinegar chips and chocolate santas–Thanks to those wee care parcels!
While lunch wa son out came Monopoly – a great game and the children were surprised to see many of the places we have visited were on the board. It will be a fantastic souvenir to bring home. Hours later – lunch!
Wouldn’t you know it but the gas ran out – this was hot water and cooking (oven and rings). Not wanting to disturb the property manager, who lives in another village on Xmas day, we went to a neighbour who knew nothing about the gas. But he helped and eventually we found the storage tanks on another property and changed it over. Then the problem of lighting the pilot light on the boiler took another 20 minutes but finally sorted, thankfully.
More monopoly and badminton then dessert at about 8:00pm! We managed to do the French thing and spread our meal out over all day! We had jelly and a traditional gateaux with cake and cheesecake filling and strawberries and raspberries. The girls went to bed and watched a new DVD – on the computer. Nev and I continued to battle it out on Rummikub for a few hours.
