Jeudi 4 Juin – A night of firsts!

The high point this week was going out to dinner with John and Christelle on Thursday night – sans enfants!!! We were really lucky as John’s parents were over from England and they very kindly agreed to babysit all 4 children!!
So off we went into town – a cocktail to start! Amazingly the bar we were at is called “Rugby Park” and the cocktails included ones called Maori, Samoa, Fiji amongst others such as the maul and the ruck.

Off to a good restaurant for our first taste of ‘good’ French food – it certainly didn’t disappoint! First course - A raw salmon mousse. I was amazed as I really don't like fish and "fruits de mer" (fruit from the sea - seafood)but I couldn't taste any 'fishiness' at all. It just melted in your mouth.
It was a night of ‘firsts’ really – first taste of ‘Macvin’ the local alcoholic aperitif and of the infamous foie gras,
Our main course (plat principal) was the most delicious beef, I am sure it was the best I have ever had. Exquisite taste and very tender.

Christelle had the langoustine (miniature lobster) and scallops!

Naturally the cheese course was local cheeses - Comtoise, from this region of Franche Comte. We had Compte and Morbier.
Dessert for me was pineapple based, Nev had a pistachio crème brulee and Christelle had Tiramisu made with the local vin jaune (yellow wine) and would you believe curry! It was exquisite.

Naturally this was all accompanied with various wines and beverages!

This is the food and evenings I had really imagined before I came – unfortunately in my dreams I had forgotten to take into account the children and choosing restaurants that serve food that they will eat!
After this I am sure I would love to try a Michelin starred restaurant but I don't think this will happen somehow.....will keep you posted!
