Up for breakfast – on the way we spotted a Camel! Not to miss an opportunity the girls were over there pronto and before we knew it they were sitting on him ready to go. A bit if a shock though when he stood up as his back legs went up first and they were on a bit of a steep slope! Off for a ride on ‘chocolate’ around the complex – the biggest shock however was sitting back down, neither of the girls were ready for the 'big drop' and they got a fright! A few coins later we got to breakfast!
Friday is market day and there were many market stalls set up around the place. Very quickly the salesmen pounce on you – within seconds we all had bracelets around our wrists necklaces on and the offer of the ‘bonne prix’ good price! Trying to get out of it is very hard, they are very friendly and touchy people! There are no fixed prices in Morocco – you haggle for everything – general rule halve it! We walked away with a bracelet each and 1 necklace – I think 120 dirham later!
Found a couple of loungers around the pool closest to us – amazingly! People are up and ‘booking’ longers by 7:00am with a towel and book! We had to go get towels and pay a security deposit to ensure they come back! Spent the afternoon swimming and reading by the pool. Nev decided to go running in the heat of the day – probably 30 degrees! He went to the beach and ran along the promenade.
We met a lovely Dutch couple, Jacqueline and Cor on the loungers next to us. A very interesting couple to talk to.
The girls loved being able to have the run of the complex – very safe, and playing with all the other children. The cats and kittens were always a huge attraction. They even found a mother with 5 very tiny little kittens still with their eyes shut! They could get their own drinks, feed themselves and entertain themselves the whole time. A time where they were very grown up – taking themselves off to find others, play minigolf, swim etc.
We all really loved meeting new people each day and night. We met a few British guys that were travelling on their own and Nev struck up a friendship with these guys and we would meet them usually about 5:00 for drinks before tea. Nev, Martin and Paul!
Tea tonight: Orient Express – Royal Soup, Spring rolls, Vietnamese salad, chicken and pineapple, Lychees.
Each evening at 9:30pm there was a show in the big Amphitheatre. Tonight was a Morooccan theme night with different regional groups doing traditional entertainment.
The big finale – a cobra – and the snake charming music etc…. I was to find out later that if you are bitten by a cobra you only have a few minutes to live. A camel – a big beast will die in approx 6-8 minutes so humans about 4 minutes on average!! Luckily we were in Morocco in their winter – still 22+ degrees everyday and all the snakes are hibernating! Scorpions too are rare in winter! Whew!!!!
During the show Seph complained about a sore ear – it was very loud with all the drums etc. and she had tried to cover her ears. At the conclusion of the show it was 11:30 and off to bed. We gave her panadol for the pain in her ear, however it still wasn’t better and she couldn’t sleep, she came into our room after about 30 minutes screaming in agony and wanting to rip her ear off. More panadol - no effect – she was in terrible pain – more panadol after another 45 minutes. Trying to decide do we try and get a Dr in the middle of the night. It was a terrible night, nothing would take the pain away, we had TV on trying to distract her. We both felt terrible as nothing we did stopped her from writhing about in agony. About 5:00am she finally fell asleep.
